Most of what I've seen in family accumulations passed down were from non-collectors and were, in the best cases, common date Morgans wrapped in an old Kleenex, and in the absolute worst case, a family friend who had inherited about 3 dozen pre-1800 US type coins, incuding half cents, wreath and liberty cap large cents, a flowing hair half dollar, etc. (alas, no 1794 dollar) all in what I would say was VF - AU shape worth some pretty good money and then abbrasively cleaned and polished them ("because they were hard to see") and put them in a frame.

It seems I've read here someone else had an 1883 O/S.
O/S are usually 1882 O/S VAM-3, 4, and 5 like these shown here: Rob Joyce Rare Coins
It may even have pitting on the reverse from pitted dies.
But then again maybe not...
If I only had a dollar for every VAM I have...err...nevermind...I do!!
