Now that I have goldrush's Garrett GTI-2500 (though it is still unassembled and unused in the box as of this posting), I will probably no longer need my other two machines.
The Troy Shadow X2 I have is a terrific relic machine and very simple to use- it will make a great beginning detector for somebody who wants a simple machine that goes deep. Trouble is, it has quit working and I still haven't sent it off to be fixed.
My primary machine (before the recent upgrade) was a Garrett GTAx-550. I guess I got it a little over two years ago. I haven't used it as hard as I did my old GTA-500. It is in pretty good condition, I guess. Works fine. Comes with two coils- the standard 8.5" and a 4.5" sniper coil. It
The collar on the connector of the coax cable for the bigger coil is slightly bent from when I accidentally shut it in the car door one time, but this does not affect the coil's performance. It just makes it a little harder to screw on and off. The connector itself is fine.
I should still have the manual and the video somewhere.
Here is what Kellyco charges for a new GTAx-550 with a single (elliptical) coil.
Here is their data sheet with general info on the detector.
I think I will probably want somewhere in the vicinity of $300 plus shipping for my machine, with both coils. Might consider coins as a partial trade-in.
Probably the oldest coin I have found with this particular Garrett is an 1850 large cent. I also got an Indian cent or two, an 1877-S Seated dime, and several Mercury dimes, including that small silver cache last year. This machine has what it takes to find the goodies. I would still be using it if I hadn't just upgraded to one with more bells-n'-whistles.

You afraid I packed a poisonous snake in there or something?
I am sure it is dead by now.
I think I might have to give that li'l monster its inaugural run tonight. It would be appropriate for my first outing with a backlit machine to be at night. Besides, I try not to go outdoors during daylight in July and August!
