Anybody got any coins that are worse in hand than the coin pics where they bought from?

You know, you always see the comment, "I bought this from so and so, here is the pic, and the coin is even better in hand".
Well, if you got any that looks worse in hand than the pic, post them.
I ain't got any, sorry.image

I've had serveral! I used to just eat it when this happened only to later most every coin for a loss. Today, if the coin is anything less than expected, I return it immediately.

  • Yup. Here's the auction photo:

    And here's my scan:

yes...but I no longer have the coin.... it was the companion to Gooses' staple scratch in the form of a 1804 Half Cent. It got sold at a significant loss.

I have had some come that way, even from great dealers. But then again it may be an expectation since most coins are photographed in a different lighting arrangement than one typically views them.

ER: Yes, and sometimes if fortunate it goes the other way, where the coin looks even better in hand than in the photo.

Often purchasing coins from auction photos is like a crapshoot, which is why it's always good to have the option to return the coin if not totally satisfied with the purchase..

One might not think this coin purchased on ebay was scrubbed with a brillo pad and is bright silver from this fine photo from vintagegreats.

I thought the coin he sent me was the wrong one by mistake!
