My best deal was trading 2500 toy hotwheel cars (which I had only $500 in) for a 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar. This was about 8 years ago. The dollar now resides in a PCGS VF-30 holder.
When I lived in Reno I would pay 2.5 times face for junk silver coins I bought a roll of old barbers from a coin shop when I got home there was a 1896 S in the roll. Times got rough and I needed 4 new tires for my Pathfinder so I sold it for a little over $450.00.
I was nine years old when I recognized the dealer's XF 3 cent nickel as a weakly struck mint state coin and bought it for $14. The original ANACS, they of the photo certificate, agreed.
I purchased a counterfeit K Rand a few years ago on vacation for a dollar. The fake K Rand was covered in a black tarnish type grime. Took it home, cleaned it up, turned out genuine, although at that point badly polished. Sold it at melt.
