I didn't know they wrote checks in Heaven!

I'm not sure whether this is really suppose to be 1970, 1971,or 1972, but the real tragedy is that some poor consigner is going to have to pay a consignment fee for this...

Looks like it should be 1/10/72 to me. I can't believe no one caught this error. The proofreaders must not be big baseball fans.

The auction is wrong. It's a 1972 check, not 76. I saw that in the catalog and called them, nothing they could do.

I have a 72 check also, I'll try to get a scan and add it. Nothing wrong with that check.

Edit: scanner has issues. Here's a check that sold last month - for over $8000. Mine isn't anywhere near as nice but cost a bit less.

Oh, I'm sure the check is legit. It's just that the auction house stands to make a lot of money on this, so they could have taken the listing a little more seriously.

They corrected the error. I was browsing their auctions last night and there was an amendment made to the listing. Check out this link...

Cool. I'm just trying to figure out who typed that, and who is assigned to checking this kind of stuff. The 6 key is far from the 2 key, so whoever typed it just looked at the check, saw a 6, and had no idea who Clemente was or what happened to him, otherwise they would have caught the mistake immediately. That's what I'm guessing, and if I'm correct, I'd expect more from an auction house that stands to make upwards of $1,000 on this type of lot.
