They will not make the playoffs. Sad really, they have one of the most potent offensive teams in the league but their pitching has really come back down to earth.

The National league has ZERO of those bull$hit artificial turf fields left. The Twins we have hope for but not the D-Rays or the Blue Jays I am afraid. Those fields SUCK

But that team is far too loaded not to make the postseason.
The Giants had a fork in them way back in 1951, when thay trailed the Dodgers by 13 1/2 games on August 1.
The "fork" was given to the Cardinals in 1964, 6 back, ten games to go, and probably a t least a dozen other teams who had to come from pretty far behind to get into postseason play. History does repeat itself now and then.
It's sure fun to downgrade the defending world champs, and their pitching has not been outstanding, but.....perhaps it may be a little early , who knows for sure, it does make for an exciting finish however.
<< <i>Zef! ..... I think they have a great shot along with , Boston (don't tell anyone I said that). >>
I HEARD THAT !!!
The World Champ southsiders were lucky enough to sweep the mighty Tigers and do have a decent shot at the playoffs if not the actual division title. Anything may still happen, but putting the proverbial fork in them seems to be way too premature.

Then there were the 1978 Yankees who had a fork in them and were 14 games behind the Red Sox on July 18, 1978. They came back to win the AL East when Bucky Dent hit the famous HR in the one game playoff. If I am not mistaken that was the biggest comeback that late in the season for a team that went on to win the pennant.
The White Sox are only 5 1/2 games out.
<< <i>Well, that about says it all right there. >>
I agree.
The silly sig line photo is a dead giveaway too.
<< <i> <<The Mets had the fork in them back in 1969, when the other Chicago BB team, the Cubbies had something like a 9 game lead in early August.
