Mutilated $50 Gold Buffalo

If I took a ballpeen hammer, and destroyed my unc. buffalo, would it be a sought after piece?? I'm sure it would be the only one. Isn't one of anything desirable?? Any input would be valuable.

There is nothing that can be done to that coin that will make you a millionaire.

I would like to see one that was carried as a pocket piece for 1 or 2 years. Due to the softness of the pure gold I would imagine it would wear down to a low grade quite quickly.

You need to find an expert Hobo Nickel carver to carve your gold "Injun" up like they did during the depression. Then it might be worth something.imageimage

I agree with GAT. If you do not like the way the coin looks, have it carved into something you like: love token, hobo, etc......

  • Is it that soft it can be carved?? Like with a knife?

Maybe get a jump on the presidential dollars and have all forty-some of the presidents carved into it.

Talking about Presidents, I still have the Bronze Presidents coins that I won as an instant winner in the Shell Oil Co game in the early 70s. Haven't thought of them in years, but they end with Nixon.

It's all a bunch of junk I just made up. I hope you were not serious about ATing a coin, because that is simply not tolerated.

If you could hammer the image of Jesus into it, you could sell it on eBay for thousands

If you heat it enough over a b-burner so that the gold gets runny like an egg just before its right and then shake the slug a bit and sign it Dali and let it cool, you might have something. image
  • imagine what Bill Z could do with that baby !

put it on a chain, that would be serious Bling !

Has anyone found a 3-legged gold or silver Buffalo yet? Wonder what that would be worth?

I'm still waiting for someone to "tone" the image of Jesus or Mary on a coin and put it up on eBay.

I was at a dollar general store in Rockwall and some ointment caught my eye. The label was in mexican but I noticed the main ingredient (Sulfer 10%). I bought it for a buck o' five and opened it up. It was essentially moisturizer creme that was a pale yellow from the sulfer. I got a couple of old franklins and "painted" the design elements. I came back 10 minutes later and they were toned over a mild golden brown! It was kinda neat. It was obvious but I could see how someone could use it to "paint" a design like Jesus or something and put it on eBay. image

  • It would be really cool, I'll give you that.

If you want to make a really unique collectable that would bring a premium, run that buffalo through the wash with a few other coins and couple of times and wear it down to a G or VG grade. That would be cool.

You'd lose a little money on the unc peices... that's why I like bullion coins! I can carve my initials into a 1988 gold $50 eagle and only lose $40.
