First Post...help with centering and Pixel Counting

Hi all,

Been reading boards for about 6 months. Figured I would start posting questions, comments and thoughts. Appreciate all the good info here. Thanks in advance to all who may post with an answer.

Question...have seen talk in several threads of a "pixel counter" to assess centering of pics of cards. I have been holding a small ruler up to my computer screen and know there has to be a better way. Can someone please enlighten me on where to get or how to use the pixel counter.

Thanks again Jeff

Bye the way I am working on sets I collected when I was a kid (65-67 topps baseball)

I think Jruler is the best.

Jeff, that link I put in is what I usually use. Photoshop works, I have Jasc Paint Pro Shop and that too works if you are insitant on counting pixels. Just scan it in at a much higher rez than the Aaron is now and zoom in all the way. Then just start counting the pixels.

zef204...thanks much for the info and online ruler. Using this ruler I come up with 7 pixels top left and 15 pixels top right. Centering side to side then in worst spot is about 68/32.

    Am I close on this??

    Thanks again.

I think at its worst its 6/15 which is 28.5/71.5.

Cool, a fellow '67 collector image
  • Jeff,
I have never used a pixel ruler, but with a nice clear image like this, I usually copy/paste a picture like this on Word, resize it large enough so as the borders are not blurry, print it, then use an engineers rulers (50/inch). I did this on your's just now and came up with a rough 37/63 L/R centering. It's not exact, but it's pretty close.

I've never seen a pixel ruler Zef provided and will have to try that too. Good luck.

  • oops, did not see the centering is slightly tilted. I took the measurement at the center. Nontheless, that's how I measure centering.

    Hi Jeff

    First off - Welcome!

You've been reading for a long time - I don't know how you could resist all this time - but glad to see you jump in.

Where one places the pixel counters can vary slightly - but I get close to 70/30 R-L.

Good luck here - hope you enjoy your stay. The sets you're collecting are the best!

  • I was wondering about counting pixels myself.....Tried the JRuler & it does the trick. This board and those who post here are what the hobby is about. Thanks for the info.
