Opinions on the Coins, Pictures, and the Grade Please!

Post your honest Opinions of the coins, My images and the grade you would put it at. Coins are both Raw. I know I blurred the pics in my haste to photo the coins. I could surely get that out fairly easy. Thanks for the opinions!

Nice job of capturing the mint set toning on the pair.

Coin #1 has a fairly clean obverse, with the tick into the rim at 9:00 and the tiny tick on the clean cheek. The reverse is ticky, and the mark on the eagle's neck is in a bad spot. I'd count the coin MS64.

Coin #2 suffers environmental damage IMO.

You think coin 2 will not grade?

I think the black spots are a stopper.

You may be right, but I think it would be a shame not to get it into a slab if I choose to.
  • These have been posted before. Did you buy them off ebay?

Nope I did not. Got them from a board member.

They're nice but if you're asking my opinion as to what PCGS will grade them, with the hits in the focal areas as well as on the reverses, they'll probably go 64 whereas earlier on you may have squeezed a 5 ... a 6 on a really good day.

PCGS 64 for both but don't let the # bother you in the least. They're MS and eye appealing but for the ticks. image

The pictures capture the color very well. The first one is very nice, the fingerprint in the right field is mildly distracting, I'd say 64. The second one has those spots that would probably drag the grade down to the 61-62 range (or get the BB, like has been mentioned)

They are going to stay raw anyhow so...

The color is not bad, but everytime I look at the pics I see blurr... Thats going to bother me till I fix it. Reshoot the coin and such.

As a notoriously easy grader I'll go ahead and bump #1 to a 5 for color and for the very clean obv., just going to let the ticky rev. slide on thru.....

As for #2, sorry, bagged as per DHeath.
  • Thanks for the opinions.

If you really want an opinion about these images, they're just a tiny bit blury. However, you've done a great job capturing both luster and color. The images don't look tweaked at all yet still display wonderful color. This is often hard to do.

You are correct. Not one bit of image tweaking done here other than a crop out. I did manage to blurr the pics quite a bit which I can fix with a reshoot of the coins. Should be an easy fix. I will take some more pics later on.

Yes after shooting the images and posting them it really bugs me I blurred the pics which I normally don't do. I will reshoot the coin and post more later. It bugs me that they are blurred.

    Coin #1 = MS65

    Coin #2 = AT

    What makes you say AT?
  • I'm by now means an expert, but I do have 65 examples. I would asign a grade of 65.

  • Thanks for the opinions! I do plan to post my opinions later.
  • Here is what I think First coin is a Solid MS 64 with nice NT color and would slab if I wanted it to.
Coin 2 is a Solid MS 63 with NT toning. This does not mean it would slab 100% of the time. I don't think it would bag. Its Market Acceptable at least. Could also bag due to the black spots.
