Scrapbook finds! Anyone please help!

Hey guys, are any of you aware of a good method to remove glue/tape from sports cards glued in a scrapbook? Sure, I know the idea of removing any cards without damage seems like wishful thinking, but I have lucked out a few times before. Unfortunately, I currently have 40 or so vintage baseball cards and documents with some sort of glue or tape attached to the back or front of them. With some items the substance used to adhere the cards still leaves a brown/yellow mark where it once was......while with others it completely rubs off. Some methods I have used are a hair dryer, tweezers, and any type of exacto blade to cut the paper slowly and carefully. I have a bunch of '64 Topps with glue residue and a '53 Bowman Mantle with tape marks (GEEZ I hope they will come off!). Anyways, thanks for your help.

Thanks again,

- Joe

By the way - PLEASE check out my thread on the Buy/Sell/Trade board in regards to autographs for sale - everything is SUPER low as I want to get rid of some stuff before I make some new lots on ebay.

  • There is this stuff called Un-Do. It's made especially for removing photos that are stuck in old photo albums. Here is a link to it :
    Un-do

It is sold at craft stores and online. It has a little platic shovel on the end that you use to "pry" the card from behind while it drips the adhesive remover behind it. It is not suppose to harm photos or paper.

My advice is to ask the first guy who PM's you that he will buy them. I'll be willing to et he knows how to get that stuff off.

You're probably stuck. Cutting the paper, no matter how slowly, is still cutting the paper. Pulling it off, no matter how slowly, will still result in some paper loss. If it's tape, you may be able to get away with minimal paper loss. If it's glue, you're screwed. I'm sure there's some sort of solvent that would break it down but it would also likely break the surface of the card down too. Best to leave them alone. Cards with these kinds of flaws aren't rare as that's what people did with them. If they have otherwise nice eye appeal then that's the best you can hope for.
