PSA/DNA Quick Opinion Question

I've been thinking about using the PSA/DNA Quick Opinion service and was wondering if anyone has ever paid for and received a "likely genuine" opinion from PSA/DNA on a specific item, only to have PSA/DNA change their mind when you submitted the actual item along with their opinion for the full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.

If you have positive or negative experiences with PSA/DNA's Quick Opinion service, please feel free to share. Thanks.

I heard if PSA/DNA renders a "likely not genuine" opinion on an auction, someone can contactEbay and Ebay will pull said auction? Has this happened to anyone?

  • I posted this once before and everyone told me that if the autograph is proved to be "Not Likely Genuine" you get your 7.00 back. Small consolation............

I recently received a "likely genuine" opinion from PSA/DNA on an auction and will be submitting that opinion in with my item and payment to PSA/DNA. I just want to make sure I don't get any surprises like, "oops, the signature is not genuine afterall..here's your $7.49 back, but we're keeping the other $63 because the Mickey Mantle baseball you sent in was no good. Thanks for your business!"

  • I had a person not to long ago try to sell me an autographed item which he thought with 99% certainty was authentic. I declined because I generally only buy items that have been authenticated. He then put the item up on ebay and told all potential bidders that he submitted a quick opinion with psa/dna and that he would link up the results as soon as he got them. To his suprise, psa/dna thought the item wasn't authentic. The following day he received an email from ebay informing him that psa/dna had infromed them of their results and since his item is likely not genuine that they were going to pull the item.

    A few points.....
1)Before ebay pulled his auction this person emailed me and wanted to know what I would do. I told him that even though psa/dna doesn't think it is authentic, it doesn't mean that they are always correct (knowbody is perfect). With this said, I would edit the auction and pull out the psa/dna jazz and attempt to sell the item as raw. He did this but it was still pulled.

2)In a way I'm happy that psa/dna does communicate with ebay as to their opinion regarding what autos they believe not to be authentic.

3)Any seller who is going to get a quick opinion from psa/dna should wait to list the item on ebay until after the results come back.

They aren't always right. I have a Roger Maris auto and a Thurman Munson auto I got from an old neighbor who used to drive limo's and cabs in the New York area when he was younger. I sent them in to PSA thinking they would be cool additions to frame but both were sent back to me as "likely not genuine". So either the old bugger pulled a fast one on me or they are just wrong. Funny too since I had a couple other things from him that all came back genuine, including a Walter Payton auto and a Reggie Jackson and Billy Martin auto.

Knowbody is right all the time. With this said, I much rather see psa/dna give the thumbs down on a real auto than authenticate a fake one.

How can that be done? I thought you had to start your auction, send the item number to PSA/DNA then wait for a response. If not, I got a couple of baseballs I would like a quick opinion on that I do not want to sell, just to get a second opinion.

I've used Quick Opinion on an autographed baseball I purchased once. They were very prompt and got back to me within a couple of hours. I did not send the ball in for the full blown authentication, I just wanted to be a bit more comfortable in my purchase.
