Congratulations to the Shadow Angel Collection in Proof Kennedys for two HUGE acquisitions!

Shadow Angel Collection - 4th Finest Set of All Time

Last week he added the POP 6/0 MS68DCAM 1967 SMS to his set. That is one of those coins that takes more than money to acquire - it takes a ton of patience. PCGS hasn't graded one in about five years and it's been about three years since one has appeared at auction.

He followed that up this week with the addition of the POP 16/0 PR70DCAM 1968-S! Although the pop is higher, it's still not a coin that grows on trees. It's been many years since any have been graded, and it's unlikely any more will ever be graded.

Huge congratulations!

The 68 70DCAM's show up every one or two years or so. I was a bidder on that coin but it just got to be too much.

Are you thinking of the one that sold on Heritage? If so, this is a different coin. He acquired this one on eBay from R&I. The two coins are from the same submission, though. In fact, 15 of the 16 graded examples came from the same submission.

Oh, I did not know that. 15 of 16 from the same submission? That is wierd.

There are quite a few like that. For example, for the 1964 in PR70, 19 of the 29 were from the same submission.

If this is the PCGS PR70 you're talking about it does look pretty.

Pricey, to be sure, but pretty.

Russ, do you know shadow angel or do you just check out your competition frequently?

you are right about the coins - many of the best just do not come available very often

I wonder if some registry people just have a few dealers buy for them off of the bourse floor and the coins never make auctions
  • They are very hard coins to find indeed. Congrats to Shadowangel on his set. Looks like he will be moving to the top very soon, and from what I have seen and heard these are all excellent coins. I hope to see them someday either at a show or some other occassion.

I know him, but I also check the sets frequently. I've sold him a couple coins, one of which he just replaced when he upgraded to the MS68DCAM 1967. Great guy who REALLY loves these coins.

  • Russ, you have some great info on some of those coins.... how many were submitted when. I would love to have a conversation with you at some point to pick your brain.

Wow! I agree with the assessement of Russ' wealth of knowledge and with Shadow Angel's accomplishments. Despite my best efforts, its been over a year since I have been able to upgrade.

Thanks. Russ is a great guy. I now need to get him to photograph the whole set. Need to figure out how to get the coins from point A to B. Might have to hand deliver them! Need to get Russ to photograph my rainbow set as well...Morgans.

I love the Kennedy DCAM's though. Something about seeing that white frost and those mirrors! The history of the coin - all of it image. I know that the coins are only in my hands for a brief moment in time. One day they will pass to someone else. The way I see it we are just caretakers of a little piece of history.

  • I am glad to see such a healthy world in the Kennedy half collectors.... that is one of the things I enjoyed most. Congrats to each of you that upgraded and thankyou to each of you that bid on or acquired one of the coins from my retired set. I wish the best to each of you.
