When did PSA start doing this?

PSA/DNA & Auto Only Grade???
It's a post 1997 modern card with a company certified auto but it's PSA/DNA with a grade on the auto? What the heck is that?

<< <i>Not trying to start anything, but isnt it odd that the auto only card is being auctioned off by Shoeless-Joejackson?? >>
No, I don't think it's odd at all. There are about 5-8 Ebay sellers I would expect to see selling this card, and he's one of them.
Again though, considering the seller, I'm surprised it's not in a BGS holder. Maybe the rest of the standout sellers I've lumped him in with will all make the switch to PSA now if this starts working out for them....Guys like kkoenig, kardsharks, unklbenz etc might all make a small initial attempt in this arena now.

Given the seller, it makes absolutely perfect sense.
For reasons that many people know and I won't go into here, there is a chance that PSA refused to grade the cards themselves.
However, this way, the seller gets the card into a slab with a PSA 10 gem mint tag on it.
It's pretty brilliant, actually.
Collecting Bowman Chrome Phillies Rookie Cards and Mike Schmidt certified auto cards.
Perhaps I am as lost as everyone else?

This is the explaination that makes the most sense to me. I think this is what most likely happened.

<< <i>The borders on that card look about right to me. He probably just sent it into psa/dna because he knew it wouldn't grade a 10 with psa. I don't think the centering would be strong enough for a 10 anyway so there wouldn't be much point in trimming it. Also, I think the majority of this seller's cards have been graded by psa (not psa/dna) instead of bgs for a while now. And, yes, he's had a lot of cards rejected for trimming in the past from both companies, but I would imagine a lot of them are simply resubmitted until they grade. >>
All good points. Just seems odd...I mean PSA/DNA is $20/card and everyone knows the auto is good (or at least assumes it's good since it's a factory cert card) . And if he was trimming them the centering could be improved...

It could also have a surface scratch or some other defect that can't be fixed.
edited to add: I'm pretty sure psa/dna cards have to be authenticated before the autograph is graded anyway, so, theoretically, there shouldn't be a greater likelihood of the card being altered than if the card itself was actually graded.
