And think about it, if the auction gets removed ebay gets ZERO FEES.... if it sells BUY IT NOW for .01 ebay still gets some fees plus 3% paypal .....

So by reporting the auction and getting it removed......

this thread is dying for a spoo f
  • Well if you like running buyers off be my guest, but I feel that sellers who do this are taking customers away from me by making them not want to buy on Ebay anymore.

FYI Paypal does not get any of my money as I do not accept Paypal as payment and any seller who does so is putting themselves at incredible risks as their policies protect scamming buyers.

However sellers who screw Ebay by using high S/H are doing nothing to help the market place in several ways. The main reason is Ebay will use that as a reason to raise fees again. Why give them more reasons to do so??

Another reason is that it hurts honest sellers as many buyers base their bids on previous auctions and if an item sells for 1 cent and has a S/H for 9.99 many buyers will expect all the items to sell for .01 regardless of S/H.

Again Hiphop(your Ebay ID) and as you were told on Sellers Central if you want to keep screwing your customers there will be many of us out there who will report you, because you are hurting our business with your stupidity.

I've received a couple of emails from eBay regarding their plan to enforce this policy:

    [L]http://pages.ebay.in/sellercentral/ebaypolicies/listing_policies_excessive_shipping_handling.html[/L]

Seemed to me like they were going to pull listings whether or not someone reported it. In all likelihood commons posting wasn't reported, but rather caught by eBay's filters. After all the stated shipping of $9.99 for a .01 item would qualify under the "new" policies.

I think someone has some sand in their giner.
  • I have never reported high shipping costs, but I think if things seems out of hand they should be reported. I do think that there should be a little wiggle room for handling fees.

I charge $6.00 for every graded card I sell (I do offer a multiple shipping discount). I ship every card with delivery confirmation. I put 2 peices of cardboard and send it in a bubbled wrapped envelope (this should be standard). The envelope costs about 50 cents and I but up large boxes. Since I usually sell Goudey's 3,4, and 6's. I will always insure a package for up to $100 (as long as the card costs over $100). Even if the buyer doesn't pay for insurance. It a safety measure to protect the buyer and the seller. I also have to drive to the post office and wait the lines. Although the buyer may see that postage was only 2.19 but they didn't factor in the .50 cent bubble mailer, the 30 minutes I spent waiting in lines at the post office, and the gas I spent to drive to the post office. I also mail my items the day of or the day after payment. Many of my buyers are repeat customers because they know that they are gonna get their card quickly. Although this doesn't come out to me spending $6.00 at the post office to ship the cards (most of the time it is $4.49) don't jump the gun on reporting shipping costs.

I definitely think that charging $10 shipping for a $10 card is rediculous. (I charge 2.99 + 1.50 multiple items) for non graded) I do not support 'commons' cause in anyway. I must admit though, I read these boards sometimes and get scared that one of my auctions are going to get pulled because of a high shipping cost. Remember that most (not all) sellers are trying to be fair and unless something seems blatently rediculous, ask the seller about his shipping charges before you report the auction.

On the serious side of the issue. image

I have never turned any high-S&H pirates in, but based on
what some of the eBay customer svc folks say, it probably
would not likely have much effect. The servers are allegedly
set to notify offenders and give them a brief period to fix
the S&H number; sometimes the offending listings are
    deleted, sometimes not.

There are thousands of 1-cent listings everyday that have
S&H into the high-hundreds. Some are pulled, some are not.

Most of the eBay-cops are busy on fashion-counterfeiting.

I suspect that the ONLY reason Meg chatted about the S&H
problem in Las Vegas was so that she can ease the pain of
the "gross-sale FVF" announcement in a few months. Could be
    b4 Xmas, or shortly after.

Once that scheme goes into effect, there will be no more high
S&H to worry about. Meg knew that was the solution in January
when she was hatching the Vegas workshops, but decided she
could better use it later to gouge some more.

Every kind of rip-off hurts every seller on eBay. The effects are
    cumulative, so sometimes complaints about tiny-rips seem petty;
but when you add it all up, buyers get run-off, or do not bother
to show up in the first place because of the bad rep that eBay
    has on the scam issues.

    too funny
  • Just to let you know

That is not my ebay ID

Russ will be able to confirm this for you all when he sees the postmark on his chris sabos sometime early next week.

It is funny how no one had anything to say to the bottom line:

BY REPORTING AN AUCTION YOU ARE ACTUALLY COSTING EBAY ALL POTENTIAL FEES PLUS PAYPAL FEES. IF YOU LET THE AUCTION WITH HIGH SHIPPING BE AND THE ITEM SELLS EBAY STILL GETS SOME FEES PLUS 3% PAYPAL.....

So ebay actually loses MORE revenue by you reporting the auction then by you just letting it be THUS .....

Your ebay fees go up MORE if you report the auction then if you let it be.

It is simple economics and I'll bet not one of you will even try to refute this point,
in trying to "Keep ebay fees low" YOU ARE ACTUALLY MAKING THEM HIGHER.

  • And just to let you know it was (99) omar vizquel 1989 upper deck rookies available for .01 plus 19.99 shipping.

    PAYPAL ACCEPTED

  • Wiz -

Do you really run into buyers that want to pay you .01 for the same card with "regular" shipping even though the other guy charged 9.99?

If so that is their problem for being so stupid.

But why don't you try it as a test for us to see.

Put up a card for .01 with 9.99 ship....

Put up the same card (if you have a second one) for $10 with free ship.....

Put up the same card (if you have a third one) for $5 with $5 ship......

Don't post the ebay links until both auctions are closed.

We shall see if the results support your previous statement.

The next product to be featured at the Hip-Hop store?
  • Commons why would I do something so stupid, my regular customers know excatly what I charge on shipping and know I combine shipping at no extra charge. Why would I want to scare off potentional customers that is just stupid.

I start most of my raw cards at 1 penny already and have a 2.50 S/H with no extra charge for additional items won.

  • Stone Ebay does not warn anyone before they pull a listing, I see all the time on the Ebay boards where a Power Seller will come in and say something like

'Ebay pulled my listing and did not give me a chance to fix it, I am a power seller they owe me' blah blah blah. Ebay has a shoot first ask questions later polict on pulling listings.

Stop it already - what the hell are you trying to say here? Does anybody care about your inverse economic reasoning that results in ebay losing fees? Have you come on this board to try to call off those who choose to police ebay for the benefit of others? Why not just go away? You are not a good ambassador for rip-off artists.

If ebay closes your auction early, they keep listing fees. NON REFUNDABLE.
If they don't close your auction early they get listing fees and a minimal FVF.
If they close it and you relist it they get paid again.

Nobody likes paying fees but ebay is providing a service, pay them what they earned. (and please go away)

The majority of people here like to play fair and get along, and don't take kindly to ill-minded strangers. That's you.

  • Regarding shipping prices.....
The only time high shipping bothers me is when a seller is doing so just to avoid paying fees (ex..has a buy it now auction for $10 but the shipping price is $100). Other than that, high shipping prices don't bother me because I simply factor in the shipping price to the overall amount I'm willing to spend on the item. With this said, I'm not sure why so many people get worked up about it. Heck, I blame the buyers for not using common sense and looking at the shipping price before they bid.

  • But for now it just lets everyone know I bang my customers out on shipping while saving them on the bottom line.....

How does screwing them on shipping save on their bottom line?? Smart bidders will simply figure the S/H into their maximum bid, while others will simply refuse to pay for an item with an extremly high shipping only person you are screwing is yourself.

You don't know how many times I have bought cards on Ebay from shipping scammers and resell the card a few days later and make nearly double what the scammer made. A couple of weeks ago I bought a card that sells for around 25.00 on Ebay from a guy who was charging 7.50 to ship it first class mail for a grand total of 8.00, simply because nobody else bid on it due to high shipping. I turned around the next week and sold it for 21.00 plus 2.00 shipping and handling, started it for 1 cent so after Ebay fees I made as much profit as the first seller sold the card for in the first place. Only person he screwed was himself.

I do not however condone the practice of high shipping to screw Ebay as it gives them more reason to raise fees more in the future (like they really need them.) It also gives new buyers a bad taste in their mouths about Ebay and buying online totally which hurts all of us in the long run.

So if you want to keep posting listings like that be my guest, but they will keep getting reported.

Ebay sent out an email the other day regarding what they deemed reasonable S/H for DVDs is basically it said anything more than 4.00 to ship a DVD could be viewed as fee advoidance and could result in them pulling the item. That sounds like they are going to go to a standard S/H on certain items. It works on Naxcom and Cardshark.
  • I avoid sellers like commons because if a refund is in order I get .01 back not my $10 shipping
