Let's kick this dead horse again, AT or NT?

I had placed a group of 2005 SAE's into #10 envelopes prior to moving (guessing sometime in June) and the only one that toned was the topmost envelope. Looking at some of the examples recently, how can you tell that this one is AT or NT?

Nothing dated 2005 should be this toned. I'd call it "IT" (Intentional Toning) regardless of whether it's technically NT or AT.

To me, even if a coin is technically "NT," a coin this recent with this much toning is not "market acceptable" because one-year-old coins should not look like this, just as a 150-year-old dipped coin should not look blast white.

Actually, a 150-year-old dipped coin should look blast white. Non-dipped ones should not look blast white.

I simply dont believe a silver coin would naturaly tone to that extent in one year. It has to be AT.

Silver eagles can, and do tone to that extent in one year, left unprotected.

However, the colors on that one are way, way wrong. Hurts to look at it. Even ICG would bag that baby!

Left unprotected in a Taco Bell napkin, maybe... image

half of my reasoning comes from how sporadic those colors are, the other half comes from the fact that that coin is dated 2005... it takes longer than a year for a coin like that to tone

The colours are pretty intense and have a totally different range and are not splotchy like the sulfur induced experiments that we attempted. I also went back and found that the #10 envelope that this coin was in, was a different brand than the other office depot ones....I have to ask my wife where those came from.

I wonder what NGC would do if submitted? I think that I will bring this to the ANA Denver show.
