PSA always seems to find a new way to make a dollar! Comments Please!

Very interesting how everyone that owns the older graded cards with the old fonts can now have those junk cards reholdered in a new case and no one will know the difference since they have started grading newer cards with the "0" serial number again. Kinda makes me wonder why I am still messing around with PSA graded cards. Couldn't they have just put a bad era to rest, just as it seemed there reputation was on the up, then they pull this stunt! I think this is their best one yet . . . Let's let all the people who spent big bucks on overgraded cards with old flips starting with the dreaded "0" recoop some of their money, and make fools of some other people at their expense. What a joke!

i'm not following this. you are upset because they are grading with new numbers that start with "0" because earlier cards that started with "0" were overgraded?

wouldn't the font be a better way to discern the old vs new "0" certs?

    Thanks,

....is that actually the consensus? ....that cards graded by PSA in the beginning were overgraded?

Nah...he is saying that owners of old font cards can have them reholdered to make them appear to be "newly graded'

    No, it is not.

Some certainly were, but many were not. I will say this: There are a number of overgraded cards from PSA's beginning - and people, I think, tend to think there are more of them, because the overgraded ones tend to just flip again and again in the hobby, much like the GAI 9 Jackie Robinson card that has been sold half a dozen times in two years. The so-called "bad" grades just keep floating around again and again.

The flip side of the argument is this: Some of the absolute BEST raw cards known in collections were graded early in PSA's infancy. Those cards were the 'best of the best' at the time, and were and are spectacular examples. We don't hear about those so much anymore because, even though they are in old flips, they were purchased by high-end graded card collectors back in the day and have not resurfaced since.

give it a restimage you started this whole thing a few weeks ago the 1st timeand most did not agree with you , now you have to try to stir the pot again with the same ideas.

everyone has opinions , but continually bitc*ing and complaining about the same subject gets old quick.

IF YOU DISLIKE PSA SO MUCH , DON'T BUY THERE CARDS AND FIND ANOTHER BOARD TO BOTHER PEOPLE ON!!!!!!!!!!!!

PSA got rid of the old font in the 1990s, so even a "new font" may have been graded over 6 years ago.

I've always thought the older graded cards with the 0 at the begining were undergraded.

  • I for one believe that cert # 00000001 is way over graded and should be re-holdered. imageimage

Play dumb all you want . . . but I know as well as any of you what's up, the only ones complaning are the ones who used the grading service in the real early days. Complain no more . . . as your dream has come true, or as one once said "Your ship has come in"! Send that junk back in for new holders and sell it off, you know what it's all about. Case closed, Period!image

what's wrong with changing the flip? the old font looks like crap, anyway, and anyone who collects PSA cards knows how the numbering system has worked for years...........BTW, PSA should always be looking for a new way to make a buck, that's how big companies SURVIVE! image

I'm not sure I understand what your complaint is?

Haven't we pretty much agreed - old flip/new flip - old #s/new #s - buy the card not the holder.

There isn't a grading card company out there that's perfect.

Ya pay your money, now take your choice.

I like PSA. If you like another company - I can respect that.

I think I've accidentally hit a nerve with card collectors who have nothing better to do than read and write post on this board, youv'e heard of Bob Segar's "Old Time Rock & Roll" I'm sure . . . I'll respectfully refer to you guys as "Old, Nothing But Time PSA Card Collectors". You fellows don't like it when someone hits home and makes some sense of what's happening here. Wake up, be true to yourself, you know I hit the nail square on the head!

    Please leave.

Honestly, we don't want you here.

We [and I speak on behalf of many here] are CARD collectors, not PSA collectors, not flip collectors. Grading helps with some subjective analysis of a card's condition and authenticity as it relates to alteration. But I collect CARDS first. If I see a PSA 8/9/10 that I think is ugly, I simply don't buy it. Period. I don't buy cards based upon a number on the flip. And I never will. And many of us do not collect PSA cards exclusively. I also have SGC graded cards as well as thousands upon thousands of raw cards.

I urge this joker to check out the thread entitled, 'The Ugliest PSA 10 ever?'. That PSA 10 was recently graded.

1960's guy-please give us your thoughts on overgrading after you see that card
  • In before the lock. J/k

1960toppsguy- You want to be useful? Complain about overgrading and slabbing of counterfits by GEM. Dont come to PSA's house and spit in their face. Your OPINION is just that. A opinion. You act as if you are stating facts and PSA is up to something. You mention you hit a nerve by people who have nothing better to do. Well I do. I sneak time to be at CU while doing my job. You on the other hand come here, twice now to complain about something that I think is very minor and not some conspiricy. How come you dont find something better to do to fill your time?

Maybe PSA just wanted to give the early collectors a chance to have their cards in new holders so the fonts will all match and PSA will not have to issue new #'s which would mess up the pop reports.??

1960TC - you're the same guy who expressed interest some time ago in a group of raw 1960 cards I spent a great deal of time putting together for you, at your request, then gave me some sort of story about coming up with the money soon, and, while I held the cards for you for months, never got back to me. Now, as you show your true colors to the rest of this board, I have no problem responding to anyone who asks you to leave and that you're getting on our nerves by saying....

    ...ditto.
