Oldest Ebay Account = Redmontccod?

The WHOIS on www.ebay.com states that it was created on August 4, 1995. Ebay seller redmontccod states in his item descriptions that he has been an ebay member longer than anyone else. Ebay records indicates that he has been a member for ten (10) years and nine (9) months, e.g. he registered on October 30, 1995. Is anyone or does anyone know of a member who has been registered as long or nearly as long? Just wondering.

I would have to think that the oldest member would have to be a Pez collector/seller. Didnt Ebay start out as being a Pez trading/selling place? Some Pez guy told me this.

The very first item sold on eBay was a broken laser pointer, sold by the founder.

    From Wikipedia:

<< <i>The frequently repeated story that eBay was founded to help Omidyar's fiancée trade PEZ Candy dispensers was fabricated by a public relations manager in 1997 to interest the media. This was revealed in Adam Cohen's 2002 book and confirmed by eBay. >>

Nov-03-99 here. I was on eBay even before I got back into card collecting full-time (opened the account to buy rare Criterion Collection DVDs).

  • I remeber being an auctionweb member first, and then getting invited over to Ebay when the site became Ebay. Anyone else?
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

Pierre Omidyar founded Ebay in September 1995, in his San Jose living room. So this guy has to be one of the first members...

8/29/98 for me, but my current account isn't my first. I had several before that. If I remember correctly, at one time, you couldn't transfer username accounts from one email address to another.

Does anyone remember when ebay used to brag about themselves on their homepage. They used to have a running total of the total dollar amount for all items ever sold on ebay. The amounts I remeber were well under $200,000 from the beginning of ebay. At the time, there were less than 500 total items on ebay. I remember going through the entire stamp section with maybe 120 items in it.
