I bought this coin last night and i hope it looks a little better than the picture. I have seen better 58's, but this is a tuff coin to find and i thought the price was very fair too.

You comments on the coin and price please.

It also looks proof like!!!!!!

Any 1895 s in a pcgs holder is hard to come by. I was proud of my vf30. That au58 looks nice, and they usually go for near book value since it is relatively scarce.

For $1900 that coin+grade is a steal... a huge steal. Look at any major Morgan dealer and they'll typically be asking more like $2700-$2900 for a PCGS-58.

    Way to go!!
    When in doubt, don't.

    I like it lots.

Difficult date in general and even more difficult at that grade. Looks conservatively graded as well.

    Nice job.

  • These dates are tough to find nice in correctly graded AU58. Even if you paid a bit to much, I doubt you'll do better in a 95S because the MS coins--even up to the $8,000 MS64's are marked up and aren't very attractive, for some reason. Good luck!!image

I saw that and almost bought it myself ... but got distracted by something else image I love PCGS AU58 as it is almost always a bargain grade with great eye appeal. Please post a pic when you get the coin.

My favorite date in the Morgan series. Similarly priced to the 1895-O...but just rediculously more difficult to find! The several hundred existing mint state examples held the circulated prices down for awhile, but the 100%+ price increases for circulated examples just hasn't brought out the coins. The mint state distribution numbers look alot like the 1894. I see this coin with still a lot of upside to go over the next 4 or 5 years, and eventually it will get priced as much tougher than the 1895-O in circulated grades.

    Rex:

    You did really, really good!

Is it either a VAM 3 or 4 by any chance?
    When in doubt, don't.
  • I bet the lighting is emphasizing the dings and that it will look better in hand. Nice pickup!

-----Good point Gregg, I wouldn't be trading any AU55/8's to get MS63/4's anytime soon. Looks to much like the 1894P prices did as you pointed out.image

Here is an interesting figure. PCGS has certified about 2700 1893-s dollars, but only about 1600 1895-s dollars. You will see way more 93-s's on ebay at any given time (in a pcgs holder).

Great example of why I like AU58 as a grade. You can find stuff that is a rub away from MS63. That coin looks like it would fit in quite well in a choice BU PL set on a reasonable budget. Now find an 1884-S like it.
