What is the future for first strike Eagles??

The July 31st issue of Coin World has an article everyone should read, I did. Did you dump hefty sums of money into First Strike coins?? The U.S. Mint admitted to Coin World, that the date on a green monster box of Eagles, doesn't indicate when the coins were struck. The boxes are dated and verefied when the coins are shipped, not when there struck. So you could be buying a coin that was struck on beat up dies, or the last coin. How can a coin be a First Strike, when no one is certain when it was made?? What impact will this information have on First Strike coins? I went to a smalll coin show on Sunday the 30th, and the word is out concerning First Strikes. I'm thrilled that I have only purchased 1 First Strike coin. I would appreciate a response from a PCGS official on this matter.

I think you just learned Lesson 1 - Coins are often sold, not bought. Hype sells, marketing ensures high sales and profit for the vendors. This is all packaged as for the 'collector demand'. We all start collecting with little to no background, the internet now allows people to research coins and learn faster than ever before.
As for First Strikes they are more of a marketing gimmick and a promoter's dream than a rare or scarce coin. Expect them [MS coins] over the long haul to trade like they were intended, bullion.
<< <i>Why anyone would pay a premium for a coin in a holder that says "First Strike" is beyond me. My prediction is that the "First Strike" fad will end up on the trash heap of numismatic history. 1964 pointed-tail dimes anyone? >>
What he said
"The silver is mine and the gold is mine,' declares the LORD GOD Almighty."
<< <i>i hope there was never a premium for any first strike coins but i dont think there ever will be now. >>
The first strike PR70DCAM gold buffalos aren't bringing any more than the regular ones. In most cases, these first strike coins have been bringing at best a small premium. I guess, though, that there may be collectors who didn't bother to check PCGS's and NGC's criteria for the designation and ponied up more than they should have.

<< <i>Hey Tarmac thanks for not ripping into me. So when will first strike coins come down in price?? >>
I'm not sure they were ever relly "up" in price. The coins have been trading on the
basis of grade but this is independent of their "first strike" status. Collectors, as al-
ways, are well advised to buy coins rather than holders. This isn't to say that some
might not want to collect slabs or original packaging as to say that you need to know
what you're buying.
