If you paid for a coin early Tuesday then were told by the seller it would ship out Friday....

Would you be annoyed or disgruntled in any way? I guess four days isn't that big of a deal, I'm just used to sellers shipping the next day in almost every case.

It does upset me when sellers do this. If they are a high volume seller, I can sometiems understand. Some sellers only go to the post office to send packages once a week. My office happens to be accorss the street from the USPS. Some people are obviously not that close.

I kow I don't get to the P.O. more than twice a week any more, so on average I take two or three days to ship items once I have payment. I don't think a three or four day wait is unreasonable.

    I don't find that unreasonable.

An irrate customer taught me a lesson. He flew off the handle when I said I would ship within 48 hours. Now I just say I will ship "promptly". I certainly view 48 hours as prompt.

Was this an item bought on eBay?

If so, you cannot open a "Item Not Received" dispute until 10 days have passed, which should give
you some idea about acceptable shipping time limits...

  • Fair 'nough. It's one of those deals you're dying to see in hand and can't wait one day much less four plus transit time. The anticipation is half the fun so I guess try to enjoy it. image

Oh I wasn't even thinking of going there. I fully expect to receive the item all right and have no reservations. I just have ants in my pants, John.

You can argue that point that's why I stated early Tuesday. OK, three and three quarter days.

Exactly the type of response I would expect from you, Russ. image

What bugs me is when someone emails you in a panic two days after you notify them the coin was shipped. I know they are just excited to get their coin but please give the post office a little time to get it to you.

I too expect it to ship as soon as possible after cleared funds are recieved, however, I would rather have him tell me it wouldn't go out until friday, than just wait until friday without a heads up.

If iy going to be more than 2 days, let me know, and I'll be ok ( Up to 6 days- more than that with out a reason and I'd get a little annoyed)

You were given good information by the seller (when he expected to ship the coin). I'd consider that good service and be very happy knowing what to expect.

I'm okay with it as long as I know about the delay before deciding to purchase or bid on a coin. It wouldn't peeve me too much if it shipped within 3-4 days, but if a seller has a set schedule or typical number of days before shipping an item, knowing that ahead of time would be a courtesy I'd appreciate.

    You're killing me.

I don't think it would make a difference. Wouldn't packages received early Friday by the Post Office ship at the same time as packages received minutes before 5 PM? I doubt the seller will choose an early expedited shipment option if it's even available.

I know I feel bad if I don't ship the next day but I have had weeks that wer darn near impossible to get stuff out. I would not think anything of it if it took a few days. In General e-bay says a week is reasonable time.
  • In my own listings, its emphasized in red font that I request upwards of 7 days to ship, and that if you would like a more definitive time frame, please write before bidding.

Often it is 7 days before the package hits the PO, I have had very few complaints about it as people know this beforehand, if someone does complain, I offer a refund, no-one has yet accepted that option. In 6000 transactions, never a feedback complaint. Interestingly, even buyers who don't see their purchase for two weeks following the auction usually comment "fast shipping"?

So, I guess its all about letting people know upfront.

Some people cannot wait a day or two for anything. Just this last Monday a buyer Emailed me at 9 AM and asked if his coin had shipped yet. He informed me that he paid promptly with Pay Pal so I wpuld get a guilt feeling if the coin had not hit the Post Office yet. He did pay promptly with Pay Pal and I suppose his request was warranted even though he bought the coin at 6 PM Friday night.

It was really hard not to be a total smarta$$ with him.

Four days is no big deal to me.

Did the auction close early Tuesday or did you take a few days before sending payment?

Either way, nobody is expected to jump the minute a buyer sends payment.

    No big deal.

When I run auctions, I usually go to the post office only on Tuesdays and Fridays. It's just not worthwhile making the trip every day -- I don't do near the volume necessary to justify the trips. If you paid early on Tuesday, but after I had already left the house, your package wouldn't be mailed until Friday. I've been doing this for years, and never had anyone complain about slow shipping.

At least he told you when it would ship. So I'm OK with it.

What should piss you off is, if you expected it by Friday and found out it didn't even ship until then, without notice.

Auction ended Monday night after 6PM PST. I paid Tuesday morning about 8AM PST, anxiously hoping it would ship Wednesday or Thursday. So Friday it is. No big deal; just anxious. The lead time is fair.

Maybe this is why all those people charge $40 bucks to ship a Morgan. It's the inconvenience of going to the P.O. every day! Maybe you could charge 10 bucks extra if they want it shipped out on Mon Wed Thurs or Sat.

The post office is open Saturday. I often take shipments in on Saturday morning. I think that is kind of what he expected.

Depends on how much mail the post office handles. My local on just ships out once a day. But the main post office that I used to use in Louisville had trucks going out constantly and more than one truck a day to each location.

As a seller I try to ship within 1-2 days of auction close and payment recieved. I pretty much expect the same thing when I am buying.....
