1896-O Morgan Micro O??? Vam 4???

Is this 1896-O a micro O? The mintmark is tilted, but it doesn't look much smaller than a regular O.

I don't think so, but I'm not an expert. It looks too large and too far to the left for the VAM 4.

I don't think that's a micro-O. I have one holdered by PCGS, and the O is positioned more to the right, and is more tilted, than yours is.

Looks like a Micro O to me, based on both "The Top 100 Morgan Dollar Varieties: The VAM Keys". The Micro O's of 1896, 1900 and 1902 have been declared as contemporary counterfeits, but there's some dissenting opinions on that. If it's in a PCGS holder, PCGS will refund the value of the coin, but from what I hear, it's more valuable now so you might want to hold on to it.

EDIT: Upon looking at the VAM World photo, and the 1902 Micro O I have, the mintmark position is wrong to match the Micro O.

I don't think it is a micro O either. The position and tilt are wrong. Also look at the center of the mint mark. Micro Os are more round than this one.

This is not a micro-O. That is a medium O. The micro-O is half that size and rounder.

Yep. There is really no inquiry required even if you never saw one up close before. These ones get people all the time though for some reason. I have seen a number of them bid way up in online auctions.
