OT,?Sorta? Would the situation in the Middle East

Prevent you from collecting coin's from any of the current countrie's involved in promoting terrorism or war...?

I've yet to see any that command any premium, Unless it was Au. or Ag. or Bullion value? Let along with the fact there doesn't seem to be much of a market for it.

It would not deter me if I did collect coins from that area of the world, but I've never had any interest in middle eastern coinage except some of the ancients.

    No.

But like AF, I do not collect any of these either anyway. I know I risk to sound arrogant, or to offend some people (which is not my intention),but I find modern Israeli coins among the ugliest designs I've ever seen. The lettering does not help the situation either.

Most of the modern Israeli coin designs are so-so at best. I suspect that most collectors of Israeli coins do so because of ethnic or emotional ties to the country, because they don't seem too popular in the marketplace. There seems to be much greater interest in Arab, Turkish and Iranian coins -- during the 1970s Iranian collectors ran up the prices of many rare Persian issues.

The only coins I won't collect for political reasons are modern issues marketed solely to collectors from countries that participate in or finance terrorism (Cuba, North Korea).

Since I only collect by type and I don't collect NCLT issues my purchases really don't do much to help fund any of the political aims of any of those companies. The only profit most of them make from me is the seniorage on there modern coins. The dealer I buy them from makes a lot more than the country does, and the country made their seniorage on the coin when they issued it whether I buy it or not. Older issues that I buy are not likely to be funneling money back into their pockets either. They look to make their money on sales of proof sets, mint sets, bullion coins, and commemoratives. None of which are on my shopping list.

I believe coin collecting is much about history, and history has bad things and good things.
I love my 3rd. Reich coins, but that doesn't make me a nazi, or yes ?

I agree with you about the collecting from the historical point of view, and yes, I also own several Third Reich coin's as well, and i don't consider the thought of being a Nazi, even though i am part german. I don't agree with the current situation in the middle east, But i feel that countrie's that are funding terrorism and shouting death to america in the street's aren't worth my time of day and that i certainly wouldn't even consider buying coin's that the proceed's might go toward's the funding or support of any such group's or organization's.

The reason i posted this thread was just out of curiousity. I wish that everyone would consider the thought of "Give Peace A Chance" again....image
