Question about Topps blank backed/fronts(moderns) cards....

I've seen multiple auctions in which Topps have blank backed and blank fronts on modern cards, anyone know the deal behind these?

I have one in BGS 9.5 as well...

Now, are these rare or what? I picked it up figuring eh, it might be. Anyone have any info for me?

A novelity item. not unusual. I had some wrong backs that are worth about the same.

Rare? Sure. But do people care? Blank backs are probably slightly more collectible than blank fronts. Just tends to be cards that slipped through the process.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • Ah yeah, I understand BB being worth more(there's an actual photo instead of stats on the card).

I like how BGS gives the Sanders card in the above link a 9 on centering.

While the back may be 80/20, the front is clearly 50/50.

That's really different from coin collecting - where doublestrikes and misstrikes often are worth more.
  • If you find player collectors that have a extensive collection you could make out pretty good. Example I would pay over $50 for a 89 Fleer Bill Ripken blank front/back or wrong front/back. Alot more depending on the version.

I have some blank front sheets from 1987 somewhere in my attic. During the late 1980's when you could find a card show or two every weekend I bought several of these sheets for about $2.00 per sheet. I am not sure if they were issued this way from Topps or not. Maybe I should look for the sheets and see if Bonds or McGwire is on any of them.

I'm sure it will look like this blank front 89 Fleer Ripken. Bet there is not too many of these around. Although it's really not for sale:

  • Well I know at least theres two of 'em.

  • But now you will have to try to get black fronts of all the Bill Ripken versions. Just kidding of course.

  • ha ha. Actually a blank back set might be possible but I have enough missions. I started to expand a little, having all versions on rack. Though not all were avail in rack its still kinda cool.

I have a couple dozen of these from a small collection I just picked up. They are all Topps baseball from the late '80s. If anyone has any interest, just shoot me a PM.

I've always wondered why cards with blank fronts/backs and severly miscutted cards are not worth anything but coins that are done like that sell for hundreds of dollars each. Isn't that odd?

I am also a coin collector and I agree. I have learned that coins and cards are 2 totally different animals. For example if a card was double printed it would probably be worth less, but if it is a 55/55 lincoln look out!.

I just pulled my first blank front card the other day and I was kind of excited about it. I even showed it to my wife. My excitement lasted less than 10 minutes. I posted it here only too be told it was only worth a couple of dollars if that.

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Imho alot of the late 80/early 90's "errors" were backdoored and or created. On the flipside printing errors from before 1975 or so are quite rare due to most being thrown out by the kids that were collecting them. To me personally I like this type of oddity- my favorite one I own is a 1965 OPC Pete Rose with a Walt Alston back- Sweet! I have been offered a 100 for it. But it's not for sale. • I agree with the backdoor and intent. I know a guy who said he used to buy FF saw cut versions from a girl grader from the Fleer plant who snuck them out in her bra for $10. Another bought a large lot of miscuts and oddities that a maintenance man pulled from the factory dumpster.
