The Blue is really starting to take over the coin and is getting very pretty. The eye appeal on the coin went from an F to an A+ for me... I am still shocked at what the coin is doing. In Terms of value I think it at least doubled or tripled, but its not for sale so that does not matter. The part that does matter is the eye appeal in my eyes is better and since I own the coin, thats what counts to me.

Can you refresh us on exactly what you're doing that is bringing about such fast toning?

Here is a quick refresher... Bought the coin just about Christmas of 05... Photoed the coin on the first date, then in my haste I left it on the napkin I had used to photo it with. Which brings us up to picture 2. Then after that I took the coin and wrapped it up in the napkin and put it away for safe keeping. I have kept track of the results as you see from the pictures. I have done nothing else special to the coin.

I cannot answer what the contents of the napkin are. Its just a brown napkin as far as I know that came from Taco Bell.

So, does the napkin have hot sauce on it, or is it clean? image

Somebody will read this thread and start selling a "chemical-free rapid toning kit" on eBay. BIN for $10 and you end up with a napkin.

the original photo looks like a dipped coin.
Is this coin sitting in a gun cabinet with your ammo ? reloader ?
it might work in a Taco Bell napkin but how about a sanitary one image

I do have to admit, if this is the way to bring back toning to a coin that was stripped of it's original skin by dipping.... it looks like a natural album tone over a damaged coin (reverse scratches)
Now if I only had kept some of them that I already sold.... image
It looks worth the experiment for an otherwise "lifeless" coin image

Oh image I get it now ...

    Taco Dip ....

Toned coins are what they are.White coins are what they are, its about choice and what you like, toned coins dont do much for me I prefer white coins. But I can see how colors might trip a few triggers.I think toning is a fad and it will fade with time..................very interesting project I also like to put coins in different situations (on a heater,on a sill,in an album) I should take pictures to compare over time.........great subject.image

I have no clue at all. The only reason I even continued the whole deal after picture 2 was this coin was already a problem coin.

Well, this is nothing short of amazing, Bruce.

I don't see this being considered AT because technically you haven't "done" anything unnatural to it at all.

If it gets bagged, more than likely it will be due to that nasty scratch that some FOOL inflicted on it.

No matter what, scratch or not, the coin is still of value numismatically.

Congrats on your new discovery. I'll bet that a lot of coin collectors have been eating at Taco Bell lately.

The real tightwads will probably go in just to use the restroom. image

I have a few pieces that PCGS claimed were cleaned. Maybe a little "south of the border" will get them to change their mind.

I wonder how this will work on dipped out early commems?

Thanks for sharing your results. Great pictures BTW.

    Anything else in the cabinet?

People, the napkins came from taco bell! They are high in sulfur and methane gas excreted daily by their customers.

Thus the results from Mcdonalds, BK etc. will not be as dramatic.
