Uncommon semi key dates with good eye-appeal, SLQ will always bring multiples of gray sheet. They always have. That is why I have limited my self to buying ms63/64 fh Standing Liberty Quarters. 23 down....too many to go.
A combination of poor reductions (for the 1916 and 1917-Type-2), an unbalanced design, lousy production by the various mints, and apathy-to-dislike by the Mint Bureau lead to much lower coin quality on this design than on the companion designs of 1916. The 1917-Type-1 was designed by the mint engravers and the master hubs/master dies sharpened in the traditional manner.
Truly high quality examples are very difficult to find and command commensurate prices.
(See “Renaissance of American Coinage 1916-1921” for details on how these designs were created and modified.)
reminds me, i need to upgrade my slq type quarter....any suggestions on a good common date in ms i might look for? whats a 1920 in 64 go for? ...~$375.00....
