  • My wife collects proof sets in Mint Packaging and also Philippine coins. Her box of proof sets is very heavy! She has an early proof Philippine coin which is one of her coins I like the most. image

Mrs. curly doesn't collect, but she doesn't care that I do.

  • My wife tries to act excited when I get a new coin. She's a pretty good actor. Today I found the die crack 1957 dime and she got excited when she could see the die crack. She used to make comments about me spending all my money on coins, but after I sold some at a profit, she has shut up. hahaha! She's pretty good at not saying anything negative and I don't make negative comments about her comic book collection. She spends more on Chinese comics than I spend on coins. But for her it is the shipping from Taiwan that costs so much.

I've mentioned this before, and since I'm usually against the grain here.... this subject is no different. My Wife (may she RIP) and I, not only started a business together, we also started collecting coins together. Although I had dabbled growing up and my Father (May he RIP tooimage) usually took me to the Long Beach show as a kid.

Anyway, My Wife and I enjoyed going to the coin shops as well as shows together. This was before certification and also when certification first started. We would go to the local shop, and the owner and his son would give us boxes of coins to practice grading, determine "sliders" and even test us. It was also nice to have an extra set of eyes right next to you when making potential purchases. Actually, she would talk ME into buying something, as I was the grumpy one (if you can believe thatimage) and she was the happy smiley type, and she would say..... "I think we should go ahead and get it." Yes, I do feel fortunate to have had this in my life, and just grin when I think back to the good ol' days.

Unfortunately Cancer her took her away, as it usually does to the good ones.

My wife doesn't collect coins, but she will give me the money to buy the coins sometimes, she doesn't complain

If she goes back to her homeland she always brings me back notes and coins for me

My EX considered it more or less a waste of time.... and would rather have spent the coins.....

But she tolerated it somewhat, and once in awhile showed some temporary interest in it. Come to think of it... before the divorce, she did ask a couple of times how much my collection was worth.....imageimage

I laughed at this one, I think our wives are related. I wish they would go by coin standards. For instance, if we collect this year's cent, we might buy 2006 RD, BN, RB, and maybe throw in an error or toner or whatnot by year. Usually once we buy them, they stay the same grade.

My wife's shoe collection by year includes: Black, White, Brown, Green, Blue, Red, Yellow, Orange, etc.

Of those colors, each has a dozen hues to match [shirt/pants/handbag, etc] then high heel, sneaker, boot, flat, etc, etc. They could go from MS70 to VG-8 in less than a week, requiring upgrades.

That is her collecting... I think sometimes it would be cheaper if she collected coins with me image

The only coins that my wife cares about are the ones that she can spend.

I don't think our budget would support both of us being collectors.

She is pretty cool with my collecting and I do appreciate that. She knows that I love this hobby.

If my wife doesn't have to hear about it she's fine with it. Kind of like she says I can be as much of a messy slob as I like as long as it doesn't breach my closet door.
