    64 on the first.
    66 on the second if it has strong luster not showing on the photo... other wise 65

    Coin #1 is a 63.. prb in a 64 holder for what ever reason..

    And coin #2 seems it has more luster than showing in the pic... MS66

    1st coin is nice, relatively mark free and pretty well struck for the date, which is usually found WEAK hence the premium for high grade examples. I'll say MS64.

    2nd coin is nicer than the first coin, has better strike details, especially in the braids and at the high points in the mane. It also has better color, though that could just be in the photographs themselves. I'd say, MS65.

    1=64
    2=65

    Nice coins, the difference in the lighting makes it difficult to compare one to the other.

    Coin #1 is in an ms65 holder . Not mine.

    Coin #2 is in an ms64 holder and that's why I'm going to walk it through the PCGS grading service in Denver.
    I think it's an ms65 too.image

  • Caitlin,

    The first 25-S is the typical satin finish seen on most all 25s. It also has the soft strike...although a relatively good strtike for the date/MM. Now the second coin is hammered for the date/MM! It could be a lack of luster that is holding it back. I would think that with the clean surfaces and strong strike that it should market grade a 65. Good luck!

    Caitlin - so you were the bidder who won that coin. I put in a bid of $6K and STILL got smoked! Best of luck on the regrade. That coin has just about the finest strike I've ever seen on a 25-S.

    Just wanted everyone to know this coin came out of the Cape Cod collection. Ed had one of the most awesom struck buffs sets to ever come to market in a long time.

    These coins where the best struck Buffalo Nickels for the grade I have ever seen. It was no dought a labor of love to put together such an awesom set he should be proud of.

    I just wanted to say from the quality of strike color and grade he should be reconized as one of the top Buffalo Nickel collectors of our time. Way to go ED image

    Ya I was the crazy one that paid strong money for that 25s just like I did for this Monster 1913 and look what happened it upgraded to ms68. I hope it happens with this coin as well I'll keep you posted. I've allways believed it pays to buy PQ coins.image

    1. MS62 The strike on the obverse looks weak. The mintmark also looks funny.
    2. MS64 Has a better strike than #1.
