Dansco 7070 Album Problem

Hi everyone:

Anyone else besides me have a "too large" Barber Half hole in your Dansco?
I was aware of some of the problems that had been mentioned about the
copper holes, but was surprised when the Barber Half hole was too big...

It is a recently purchased album - less than three months old.

  • The Barber half and the large cent ports also. Open the album 4 times and the coins done a 180

I don't have my book right here, but it wouldn't surprise me. I know I have many holes that aren't the right size for the coins. Bust halves come to mind. I might suggest cutting little slivers of a mylar flip and put it around the edges. It can become a bit of an annoyance putting into the book, but usually once it's there, it stays there.

Here's a post I started a year or so ago:

Not long ago, I started my own 7070 type set collection. I bought an 1837 Coronet large cent to fill one of the slots. I found my coin too small to fill the hole completely. I've seen others on here discuss this too.

I sent an email straight to Dansco, asking if they had a page I could get from them, so my coin would fit snuggly in their album.

Much to my surprise, here is the response I got from them today:

    Dear Mr. XXXXXX;
At the time these coins were made, the large cents were made in varying sizes due to the imperfections of the machines that created them. Therefore the porthole is meant to accommodate the largest of these coins. We apologize for that but coin collector's use shims to correct this problem. Please send us your mailing address and we will gladly send you these by regular mail.
We thank you for your patronage and hope you will contact us with any further questions or concerns.
    Sincerely,
    The Dansco Corp.

I for one plan on taking them up on their offer, and getting their free shims. I'm not sure if anyone else is aware that they do this. PM me if you need the email address I used to communicate with them.

My humble '63 mint registry set, not much, but it's mine!

I did take them up on their shim offer, and it helped keep things in place.

  • Yes , I have the same problem. I had a well circulated half in that spot at one time and it moved around like crazy , seems a little better now that i have a higher grade piece in there , but it still moves.

I think Dansco just had a brainfart on this one. I put the Barber half in the seated half hole and it does'nt move. According to the redbook they are supposed to be the same diameter.

Me too. The shims they sent solved the problem.
