New Purchase: 1758 George II British Shilling (NGC MS-62) -- How Do You Like It??

StuartStuart Posts: 9,761 ✭✭✭✭✭
Since this recent purchase was kind of a "shot in the dark-side" for me image, I'd like to hear from the British Coin specialists, as well as those familiar with this 1758 George II British Shilling - NGC MS-62 to let me know what you think of it.

I'd also like to get some opinions of rough market value to see if I did OK on the buy. The fields are semi-prooflike underneath the brown original toning. Thanks in advance for your comments and feedback!! image

Looks attractive and original to me.

Appears to be one of the most common dates in the series. Krause lists it for $60 in XF, but does not list in UNC.

Spink lists it for 95 pounds in EF.

    I don't know... $150-175?

If this is the one I think it is, you got a pretty good deal. That seller has a good eye for nice British coins. image

I like the design and the look of this particular issue, and may wish to collect additional larger silver coins of this type in high AU to mint state grades, including the Florin, Double Florin, Half Crown and Crown.

Very cool...I have no idea about valuations though, but in terms of appeal, I dig it.

    Super sharp!

Kinda goes in line with an interesting article i read in the Numismatist--it shoots down the theory that the reason so few BRITISH silver coins circulated in the Colonies was not because all the British silver was going back to England as tax payments, but simply because England hardly ever MADE silver coins during the Colonial period (particularly in the 1700's)
