    For me this is a different choice totally because it is not unrealistic. In that "range" I have purchased a lovely MS62 1840 ND seate dime,1860 O Seated dime, a MS62 1856 S, 1871 cc, 1856 PF63 1/2 dime and MS66 1836 bust half dime to name a few and felt each coin was worth the money or would not have purchased it but if given the option to buy at redbook prices I would buy the following

    Any of those coins I think would make excellent choices with the best of the bunch being the 1856 S MS62 but now to dream hope and pray I would go for 2 coins

    #1 1843 O Seated dine in MS60 ( and if anyone has a TPG one for Redbook I will buy it)
    #2 1874 CC Seated dime in Fine (while redbook is at $5000 I doubt you could find one under $12-$15,000 if you could even find a problem free coin at those prices)

    PF 65/66 seated stars dime/half dime, no motto quarter or half
    MS 65 no motto seated half
    MS65 bust dime....but I doubt that will buy a nice one anymore.
    MS65++ 1904 $20 Liberty or a slightly better date in nice MS65

    Bigger is better, I'd go with the halves first.

    obviously all in choice original condition and nice for grade. That eliminates around 80% of those in plastic.

    A PCGS or NGC graded 1916-D Mercury Dime.

  • for re-sale i'd go for a 1878-S seated half with "minor problem's".....
    and for myself to keep, I'd get a 1793 Half Cent in Fine....

    This is not unrealistic at for me as I have purchased many at that level, but I cant thing of a single coin right now I would want to buy to keep at the 5k level or I would have bought it.

    $5K wouldn't get me my 1793 Chain Cent but I could get a decent 1793 Half Cent (Left Facing)...I could get a fairly nice 1794 LC... 1856 FE Cent is just out of reach in any decent condition...I could get a nice 1877 IHC, but then the rest of the collection would look out of place...image...

  • A circulated 1926-D Saint. Of course, it would be harder to find than an unc. It's probably a good thing that I operate on a lower budget than that.
