Can $5 coins be purchased from banks?

I was just wondering can $5 coins be purchased directly form local banks and if yes, would the price be face value?
Also, if they can be purchased straight out, how would one go about asking for them? Thank you.

While we have legal tender $5 coins, they are gold and no longer circulate.

There is one "bank" here in town that sells SAE and GAE business strikes. Its a "First Bank and Trust". Don't know what arrangement they have with the Mint but they don't sell them at the monetized values of $5 and $50 - more like $20 and $800 (bullion value +).

It would be nice if they did, kind of like the post office does with stamps.

And I can't get new rolls of dimes here either. Not enough call for them, they can keep going on what people bring in, so they don't ask for any. I think that's the explanation I got.

Most likely none. When you find a bank with things like that for sale they are normally being sold for a coin dealership. One of the banks here had coins for sale for years. They were being sold for silvertowne and the bank got a cut of the profit without the inventory expense. Several of the other banks and credit unions sell state quarter sets as well. They are also supplied by Silvertowne. (Silvertowne is just 18 miles down the road.)

what they mean to say is : In a fairy tale, YES, $5 coins can be purchased from banks. But in the real world.... you'll get ten rolls of zinc
