While his work is very good, it pales in comparison to some of the work other designers accomplished. I believe it is too structured for my taste. I like a design that leaves questions in the viewer's mind. Barber's work leaves nothing to the imagination as far as I'm concerned.
John Sinnock was actually one of the best medal designers our country ever saw. MUCH of his work was used throughout the country - he designed a large number of medals for the military, colleges and universities, and organizations. To add, he was also an excellent painter, pencil artist, and cartoonist. He also designed stained glass and did some excellent block engraving. Far more talent than any one person I've seen before.
I had one of those medals a few months ago (sold it on eBay). It is a neat piece.
This is also a very ironic piece. Barber designed the obverse, but Morgan designed the reverse. Strange how two feuding artists' work was combined on the same medal.
I think Barber did a good job on the Roosevelt bust on this one.

Well, that explains why I like the reverse better. I have always loved everything George Morgan designed.
Instead of FDR on the dime...this Barber medal would look a whole lot better, just the way it is, just change the legends to incorporate the ones legally required by law.
Great looking medal for sure.

a little nicer than i would of said it but right on. its easy to tell who the better artist is on the medal mr spud posted.
C.D., do you have a list of medals designed by Sinnock? I have one that I think he might have produced, but I can't find any information about it at all, much less confirmation that he produced it in the first place...

I think that the Isabella is one of the most beautiful US coins of all time.
