Lol thanks Hayden. I get it, you want the coin. >>
Chad, you know that I have to bug you about at least one thing, and I don't think you'd like it if I exploited your previous "big" purchase around this forum.
Seriously though, that was a great buy.I love the crust!
There are some absolute heart stoppers in this thread! In particular I have to point out the following:
FatMan: the color, the strike, the skin - I love it. JZrarities: that piece looks so fresh and so clean that I almost expect to see the word "COPY" stamped on it. Outstanding! coinlieutenant: I have no idea what that half grades but it is an absolute stunner! I dream of putting a coin like that into my collection.
I love them all folks. Please keep them coming. This is easily the best picture post thread I've seen in ages.
The coin is a 1797 JR-1 dime, which has 16 obverse stars after Tennessee was admitted to the US. It is the only dime with 16 stars, and the next die reverted back to 13 stars. There is a huge die crack above the date, actually a retained cud at this stage with the broken area at a higher plane. It is an R.4 rarity, and both 1797 varieties are very scarce and will take some patience to find.
Sorry for the lousy picture, I will be getting a better camera soon. Here is the small eagle reverse:

Here's one of my favorites. When I bought it raw, it had a good deal of PVC. With a little TLC, it made it into an AG3 holder. I'll probably crack it out some day.
