PCGS crosses my NGC 5c as a pop 1/0

As discussed in my earlier thread Jeff 5c results , I sent the best 5 coins from my NGC Jefferson nickel score to PCGS for cross. They were all pop 20/0 or less at PCGS, so I figured I didn't have a prayer on any of them. The king of the hill was a 1952-D MS67FS that was a pop 1/0 at both services. Of course, it didn't cross.

But one did. It is a 1953-D in MS67, which makes it a pop 1/0 at PCGS. There are no MS67FS coins, so this is one is at the top of the grade scale for non-FS collectors. Has anyone heard of PCGS crossing a coin from NGC as a pop 1/0? I don't have it back yet, but in my notes I wrote that this is one of the top 3 toned coins out of a beautiful album-toned set. So I can't wait to see which one it is. This must be one special coin if PCGS crossed it from NGC at that level. No pics yet and I can't shoot toning if you paid me. I'll see if one of my buddies can shoot it.

I'm back to the same question as the 52-D. What is this worth? There are a few guys in the Jefferson non-FS registry that are clearly competing.

    Are you SURE your 1953-D PCGS MS-67 5c is a pop=1 coin???

Back in 2000 or 2001 I slabbed the 53-D in PCGS MS-67 and sold it on Teletrade for a whopping $340!

This coin had amazing color, very well struck, clean surfaces, and excellent eye-appeal.

I think you just slabbed the second 1953-D in PCGS MS-67 and this coin too, should be of immense

I just checked my April 2004 PCGS Pop Report and I do see a single 1953-D MS67 without FS designation. Unless somebody cracked the coin out and returned the insert, cupronik is right.

Today's pop report says 1/0 for 67. I called PCGS and they said it should be updated, but maybe it wasn't? Unless the previous 67 was slightly market graded and maybe went 66FS? I have no idea. But hey, I'll take a PCGS pop 2/0 without any problems, especially since I spent $3 on it.

    Hi
I've thought about this coin for some time, if PCGS got it right! I now have 3 different pics of this coin thanks to you. 2 from TT where it sold twice, Feb. and in June of 2001. And when I saw this coin sell on ebay in April 2005. To make my point, the coin does not appear to be fully struck, thus overgraded. Perhaps this would explain why the coin keeps getting passed along. TT also has described the strike as, "slightly above average". Others may think this coin is a superb example in one respect but I prefer MS67 coins to be graded with at least 3 qualities in the strike, condition and eye appeal and not just by eye appeal only.

With that settled..........I'm very interested in seeing the new MS67 example!
