California fractional gold. See page 364 of the 2006 spiral bound Red Book.

    Fascinating issues.

    Two things:

    1. These are very cool little pieces of history.
    2. Beware of raw counterfeits...they're everywhere.
  • What about price?

Certified AUs and low mint state examples can be had for around $200-$500. Northeast Numismatics is very well stocked with these. Take a look at their website if you want some good comparisons.
  • THANKS..........Do you think ngc has a good reputation on gold coins? I have a couple of indians in ngc holders.

I'm by no means a gold expert and can't really compare the gold grading skill of the TPGs, but NGC and PCGS are in the top tier of graders. Some here will tell you that NGC is somewhat more liberal--and they may be in some areas--but gold in either of these holders is well accepted.
