Copper Dime Weight.

I posted about this coin a while back it looks like a real copper dime on cent planchet error.

Craton told me to weigh it and I finally did.

2.30 grams.

So what does that mean it was plated or could it still be a real error. Missing clad, maybe? Did the mint produce any foriegn coins in 1988?

    Says dimes weigh 2.27 grams.

In 1988, it would have been a zinc cent planchet...2.5~grams

maybe plated...Do the edge reeds really look filled in?

The weight of the coin is within tolerance, so it's
    not:

    1. Struck on a Cent planchet (cent planchets are too big to fit into the
    feeder fingers, collar, etc.)

    2. Missing outer clad layers (would weigh alot less, and they are always
missing one side of the outer clad layer only,
    with only 2-3 exceptions)

    It's either a copper-washed planchet, or a copper-plated coin.......

    Thanks guys.

The edge is very sharp that is why I thought it could be real. Dispite the bad picture.

I'm so mad at whomever electro-plates these things and put them back in circulation.image

I'll keep this one but I'll etch fake on it before I ever put in in circulation.

I would not etch "fake" on it because it has the chance to be copper washed, like Fred said. Still a neat find, though! image

    Fred's right. It's either a copper-washed planchet, or a copper-plated coin..
