Wow...old CC mint press #1 can still crank 'em out!

I just got a 2006 silver round coined on the Morgan & Orr, CC mint press #1 yesterday. Wow, that old girl can still crank out a really nice coin. Darn close to anything the existing mints produce. That press was made in 1869 or so, correct? Hats off to the people who have kept her going all these years.

I'm friends with a guy in Nevada who knows the guy that operates the old CC press. They make medallions in silver and other metals. They are still striking quite a few medallions on the press

Wish I had a decent photographic setup. Here's pictures of a brass medallion from the press off a website I found with google. Mine is 1 troy oz .999 fine silver, dated 2006, and much more prooflike. I would estimate PF69. That old girl does a mighty fine job. Apparently the operators are getting very good at die preparation as well.

Apparently, there were 3 presses at CC. I wonder which of my Morgans were struck on #1. Something I'll always have to wonder...

August 26-27 They will be holding the 2006 Carson City Mint 14th Annual Coin Show at the Nevada State Museum. I am sure they will have the No.1 press up and going that day.They always have fun stuff for activities, gold panning is a favorite for the kid's.
