A strange one this

It is a 1966 penny but the rim is very wide, 1mm wider than normal. The diameter is down buy 0.7mm which you would think would account for the extra metal in the rim but its weight is up by 0.5g, that about 5%. The rim is definitely distressed as if it had been jammed into something too small and looks as though there is the ghost of some milling. I bought it for about 1$ just out of curiosity. What do you think?

Actually, noticing the edge, they could have also turned it between adjustable geared cogs also.....
<< <i>Someone has simply taken a spoon, or somesuch, and repeatedly tapped the rim to 'upset' it. You could simply drill the center and keep tapping until it "domes over" and you would have created a penny ring. Although your finger might turn green after just a bit....

Yes, but what would increase its weight by 0.5g

MacCrimmon had said in an earlier post. The neat thing is the lettering is almost perfectly left intact on the rim.
However, I can still see some denticles there, so I could be wrong.
My vote is post-mint damage, but it is indeed a curious item and I would be interested to hear what wybrit and others had to say.
