Original color...or not? (CC gold coin)

If it is original, it is spectacular, and I cannot tell from the photo. It is a super tough coin.

Is that an ANR picture? I think the digital effects are such that a better shot would be needed to make a fair assessment.

IThe CC would likely not receive an original surfaces designation but in all fairness the digital image I am looking at is not one the is or should be used in offering an opinion

The second coin doesn't look so orangey.

RYK I did some research on the CC-gold that is in the ANR auction, and this 78-CC $5 is the coin that was in the Henry Lang sale that B&M auctioned in July ANA sale in NYC in 2002. Doug Winter writes: 78-CC $5 Lot 615 graded AU55 by NGC. This was one of the disappointments for me in the sale. It had funky orange-gold color which appeared to be artificial. It still brought $24,150.00, which is a strong price for a date that is bid @ $14,500.00 in AU. Had this coin been choice for the grade, it would have brought over $30,000.00. By the way that is one nice 47-0 $5!!

Probably original color on the coin, but with the photo juiced up.

Reece, thanks for the research and reporting to us. So the color is artificial, or, at the very least, suspect. What a shame. image

    Great job, Reece!

    That is a shame.
