1902-O VAM 15A Discovery Coin Pictures Inside This Thread

RampageRampage Posts: 9,494 ✭✭✭✭✭
This coin came up in another thread and I said I would post some images. Since it was buried within the other thread, I decided to start a new thread for its own. Sadly, the coin has some minor damage visible in the cap of Liberty, but since it was a new variety I decided to buy it anyway. Enjoy, Richard.

Any comments?

Cool VAM. Other than the crack, is the filled 2 in the date one of the diagnostics also ? image

  • Nice one! image On a circulated original looking coin like that, I don't find those scratches distracting at all.

That's cool! It's nifty how they put it in a discovery slab.

Thanks for the comments all. Wayne, I am not 100% certain, but I think the filled 2 is seen on another variety. Someone cherried an earlier die state of this variety and the 2 was not filled in that one.

Here is the ANACS 63 I won last night. (I don't think Heritage will care if I edit a couple shots of it while I wait for my coin. Brightness just needed to come down. Otherwise, their scans were fine.)

No fill in the 2. Though it is mentioned in the description update, that is known to be variable for several obverse dates with a final 2. They could also be separate obverse dies. The reverse is unquestionably identical.

Very nice find Coxe. If I looked at anything other than eBay, I might have found it, too. image Please keep us posted when you get the coin. It would be neat if it was a different obverse die.

    Rob,

If I can figure it out, I will make a post on VAMworld. I have not poked around enough yet to figure all that out.
  • Thanks. I emailed detailed signup and posting instructions to try and make it easy if you decide to give it a go. Let me know if you do try and have any troubles. I'm always ready to jump in and help.

Thanks for the info Rob. I just updated VAMworld with this variety. Let me know what you think. I know it is not perfect, so any edits you want to do it fine.

    Thanks, Richard.
