You need to get a program that allows you to resize the picture (like photoshop). I use Fireworks. You can reduce the picture size to 72dpi, that is the maximum that most monitors will display (higher end ones go to 96dpi).

Reducing to this size will not lower quality of the "computer" viewed picture. Make sure when you reduce the dpi, that you also increase the pixels as programs tend to compensate by making it smaller. I use about 800 pixels wide and proportionally long.

As another method, you can use photobucket, I believe this site will automatically make your pics web friendly as well as act as an image host for them.

Go with the Photobucket method. Works well, it's free, pictures are clear. Can't go wrong.
  • You can also use Yahoo for hosting your images then put the image link into the post by clicking on the picture frame icon above. By doing that you can post larger pictures that have more definition. There are literally hundreds of sites where you save your pictures. Some are free and some are not. I hope this helps.

  • I recommend using irfanview for resizing images (and image viewing and minor photo editing). It's freeware. Here's the link to their site: irfanview It's a wonderful program, hardly uses any memory at all, unlike resource hogs like photoshop.

I second the votes for hosting on photobucket. Not perfect, but free and functional.
