Topps-LJN Talking Baseball cards, 1989

Any collectors out there who want to trade doubles of these cards?
Does anyone know the original selling price of the the "Player" ( it came with 4 cards: Aaron (#41), Hershiser (#82), Mattingly (#123) and the Checklist card (#164)?

  • Wow. this brings back memories. The original selling price of the player and 4 cards was not cheap. I want to say it was $59.99 but cut to $39.99 pretty quickly. And then cut down further and further from there. I'm pretty sure I got mine from Toys R Us for $14.00. The 4 packs of cards were 6.99 or 7.99 if I recall and eventually bottomed out at a buck a pack. Now I don't even think you can find any of them.

Neat concept considering. Wish I still had mine for nostalgia...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

  • LJN made ball cards? I thought they tanked after they lost the WWF liscense to make action figures?

    Anybody have pictures?

I've got the player and a whole set of the cards somewhere in my basement.....this weekend I'll try to find it and post some pictures of the cards.....I too remember when they came out. as already noted the player was some outrageous price to start and I think I finally got mine when it went down to $14.99. I also picked up most of the cards at a Toys R Us for a buck a piece. I've seen them on ebay over the years periodically. I think that some of the individual player collectors buy them when needed......and they do get graded by PSA....I've also seen them periodically.....

They looked like 1989 Topps cards, except they were bigger (3"X5" roughly) and had a small record on the back imbedded into the card. Super glossy too if I recall.
