    Media mail takes a L O N G time. 2 weeks isn't unusual.

Media Mail pretty much always runs behind.

The term "snail mail" should refer to media mail. image

I've had media mail get to me in three days. I've had it get to me in two weeks. Usually it's about a week in my experience.

Did you guys know that the post office can open media mail packages and check the contents any time they get the urge?

I don't understand why, but media mail is generally pretty slow. Maybe they use a seperate, slow moving truck just for media mail. image

That's why, they actually use trucks for media mail. Most everything else goes air.

Yes I did. I used to sell quite a few books through half.com and a couple of years ago they started asking me to bring in my packages unsealed so they could check them before I mailed them. They no longer do that but they do reserve the right to "inspect" any media mail package at any time while it's in the system.

I was told they had to crack down because people were mailing all sorts of things by media mail because it's so cheap.

I just sent off a case of old records (LPs) by media mail, took 1 week and was cheap cheap cheap. They did say they could open it if they felt like it, I told them go right ahead. I expect to be shipping quite a bit more that route.

  • Media Mail usually shipped by Truck or Railroad cross-country rather than Airplane. Expect a minimum 10-14 days coast to coast.

Someone told me that the speed is also affected by the volume of media mail that the particular post office gets. For example, I buy coin books from a coin dealer in MA. Those books get to me very quickly (in CT) because he must mail a ton of media mail packages and there is enough of a volume to make a shipment almost immediately. I don't know if that is true, but it makes some sense.

I also recently got a book that was delivered from GA to CT. That one took 3 weeks!

I've shipped a lot of stuff media mail, and for me most of it has arrived within three or four days. Most of the material I've received via media mail has also only been in transit three or four days.

That's nothing, I've been waiting over three years for a book to be delivered to CT from GA. image
