    Wow!!

What a group of '68's. One would almost think they were cherried but it's so hard to imagine
somebody was able to cherry such an enormous number of sets.

This surely goes well beyond mere chance at this point.

I can see how one may think that image Out of 100 coins only 9 would have graded lower than MS66RD, not bad, I was expecting at least one MS67RD 68-P but I guess not.

I'm curious. Does one have a better chance at high grades (namely Lincoln Cents) by submitting
100/+ coins via BULK requesting a minimum grade than by sending in 20 nice singles via MODERN?

Based on luck of the draw, yes you can expect an additional gift grade or two. In this case, though, the submitter knows what he's doing. This wasn't a case of throwing it at the wall and seeing what sticks. A ton of work went in to this result.

It's still phenomenally good results. He has one quarter of all the pop tops but it's a safe bet he didn't check anywhere close to one fourth all the rolls and mint sets. It's simply astounding and typical of other denominations from the same batch.

No shot was taken at Clackamas by this observer. I'm well aware of Brian's ability and history of
successes. In fact, I tip my hat to the man for his latest achievements!

I bring up this question for never having submitted a bulk submission to PCGS; I can't get them to
grade individual coins in MS-67 via the Modern service. Lord knows that I've tried.

I have several rolls of both D and P. The coins are all crap.

Thats an interesting question and I don't know if there is a correct answer. I made an MS67RD 68-P by submitting it as a single coin, but the coin was simply too stunning not to get the grade - Russ has seen it - its amazing. Its the kind of coin that I would crack to see for an upgrade knowing it will at least get 67 again. I was not able to make a 67RD 68-D as a single, yet I just rcvd 3 of them on a bulk. Incidentally these all came from the same hoard and I thought the 68-P's were as a lot, nicer than the D's. I think that bulk gives graders a chance to give that coin when they see similar coins that are close so that when a coin is different, even just a little, in a better way they give you the bump.

This batch was the work of three years and I picked only the finest. The theory I use is that every coin should be a shot 67 coin or it does not get sent in and I like to have some gimmes in the group (who does not image. These are coins that I may send in as singles. I feel that they will in fact gimme them when they see other true 66's. I honestly think there are some shot coins still in that batch. It maybe that it is better to take that one coin and find a group nearly as nice to bulk set it up. With the 68-D's being $2k+ coins the $900 in grading fees are paid for plus, so it may be a smart financial choice.

I thought for sure at least one, if not two of the 68-P's would have gone 67 as well which would have been really made it worthwhile.

I should get my 68-S grades anyday now, I should see a small handful of 67's as well if this batch is the benchmark.

These were all mint set coins that were hand picked. I have over a hundred rolls of 68-D's and they are garbage, so much so the vast majority of them I have never even thought of searching. its a tough date.

    Congrats!image

I went the other way with a recent submission of 1960 LDs. I picked the very cream of the crop and submitted them instead of best 100 I have on hand. I should have the grades back by the end of the week, or the first of next week. Frankly all of them should be 67's, but I'll be happy to add one to the pop chart.

I might know someone who will take those 100 rolls off your hands for a nominal service charge... image There's a nice DDR known for the date that would be well worth the effort of searching them.

BTW, the current pop report shows the '68 in 66RD as pop 116, is that before or after your submission? If after, you just made more than half the known pop in that grade as well.
