Good grief! That looks like it was done on purpose. Maybe a rock tumbler filled with fine sand or something. Guess it could be natural wear, but that's the only one I've ever seen like that.
Who is General Failure, and why is he reading my hard drive?

I hope you're kidding me! Ever really try a rock tumbler? I have. The end result is a coin that although has false wear, also sports the appearance of a zillion tiny hits (looks sandblasted) and a sheen that doesn't fool anyone.
I've tried (and, tried!) and never had a positive result. I used every medium I could think of (even including strips of worn Levis!) In fact, I offered $1,500.00 to anyone who could wear down a 1970-D Kennedy and get it into a PCGS holder (I'll try and dig up the thread). When I didn't have any takers I moved to the Ike series. At the time I stated find me any PO01 Ike and have PCGS holder it and I'd pay a grand (or was it more?). I challenged everyone and anyone to tumble these coins- I didn't care, get them holdered and receive the bounty. Again, no takers.
I always love the rock tumbler argument as it is based on zero experience, only lazy speculation.

Come on - how would I know how that coin got so worn? You need to lighten up a bit. All I know for sure is that I've never seen a trade dollar worn down like that one.

Did you see my Ike I posted today? PO01 anyday. Natural wear pocket piece. So, all I have to do is get it holdered and I get a grand?
I'm in. I'll see about getting it holdered by PCGS.
