All it takes is a couple people who convince themselves they see a 7/6 in the toning. VAMs is a funny disease.....particularly when combined with bad eyesight and a fat wallet.
Frankly, for that coin the price does not seem that high. This one is a borderline monster that would likely bring even more in a major auction house listing.
<< <i>That serial number looks to be a bit before the * designation came out >>
Nope. It was either graded after the designation came out or possibly reholdered. They changed to this label design long after they began offering the star.
The alignment of the date digits with the denticles, for starters, is not even close. There is no trace of real overdate there. Illusions like phantom E clashes might appear if one looks for them hard enough. Other than that, I cannot fathom any imagined upgrade potential to justify the bids.

Russ,Would love to see your image of that coin,as it could be a bargain for someone.I agree fully with your comments.
Great coins are not cheap, and cheap coins are not great!
1500 bucks plus the juice better be a LOT of nice .... like MS67 equivalent nice. It is very beautiful natural toning but I couldn't understand that premium.

Luckily, I don't have vams disease on top of the normal morgan disease. I don't have to worry about the fat wallet syndrome either......

How can you tell? I know nothing about vams.

Surely that is sarcasm.
