Yep...works with candles.....like when a candle comes in some sort of nice glass thing that the wife wants to keep. Works like a charm.

DO NOT heat the container of wax directly! It can result in the wax at the bottom melting and trying to expand but not being able to because of the wax plug above it. It you continue heating one of two things will happen either the pressure will continue to buid and when it finally does melt around the walls of the container it can blow out spraying hot wax all over the place and potentially burning you. Orthe bottom of the container may fail and spraying hot flammable wax all over the burner. Not a good idea. Use a double boier method by putting the container in a larger container of water and raising the temperature gently. This has the advantage of being able to heat both the bottom and the sides of the container at the same time so the wax will come loose from the sides of the container and there will be be no chance of a blowout. And since the wax will melt at less than the boiling point of the wateryou just have to let the water warm to a gentle simmer and the wax will eventually all melt. If the water level is higher than the container, as the wax melts it will all come off the coins and a gentle simmer won't be hot enough to do any damage to the coins.

One more time if you do not know what that waxy stuff really is, DO NOT add any other chemicals to it. Especially if your are doing this in your house. Keep the temperature low enough to melt the wax but not enough to start boiling. Water is always a safe bet for melting any unknown wax type materials. All waxes are basically a hydrocarbon and can react with numerous substances. Note that even a candle burns because the wax is burning.
If you do not know what a substance is composed of, DO NOT mix with other substances. Such an experiment is easy for some to mention but remember those same people WILL NOT help you rebuild your house. Also, not much chance they will visit you in the hospital.
