Don't give it the same grade I did. I can't grade for beans.

Hey; I thought forum rules stated that you had to give up the grade when someone got it right. image.

    XF40

Is this date & mint usually found corroded?
  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭
    VF35.
  • Just for the sake of reference (turning out to be wrong and learning why) I'll chime in with VF30. I say this because the wear at the center of the coin appears to be pretty significant and I can't make out many fine details. Also, you mentioned that the coin is darker than the photos, which may make details even more difficult to discern in hand. At any rate, please give us your opinion as to why the coin grades as it does when you reveal the grade as I hope to learn a bit about grading seated coinage.

AU55-- early mint CC coins were struck with almost pure silver and look like they have more wear then they actually do. The strikes on dimes from this era could be weak also---AU55.....JMHO Bobimage

Is this date & mint usually found corroded (yes)
a lot of the early CC mint coins are found corroded because of a lack of proper alloy.

I am surprised at the range of grades on a circulated seated coin. From VF30 - AU53.

That is a pretty broad range.

Pcgs assigned a grade of VF35 which seems really tought to me. There is still a bit of luster and these coins problem free are really hard.

most have some kind of problem.

The planchets had problems before the coins were ever struck and then many known coins came from the ground.

sort of, I think the coin is at least a 40. If I sent sent it in 10 times it would come back 40 sooner or later,

True, but for an early CC dime the stated grade doesn't seem to matter much. You just throw a good picture up there and watch some insane bids come in.

    Ziggy,

I agree with you. Like the 73cc's where the lower graded coin (which was undergraded) sold for much more than a higher graded coin.

I think that PCGS has slabbed some cc they would not have if they were common grades and net graded them.

I will try to post better pictures.
