Ebay sales during the National

Do you think card sales on Ebay will be effected by the National? Curious as to what everyone thinks. Will the big buyers and sellers ignore their computers during the big show?

No due to sniping and internet access everywhere.

A lot of people get discouraged when they find out they went halfway across the country to find cards that they could have gotten cheaper at home on ebay.

I couldn't agree more - not to mention, having the National on the West Coast is going to limit attendance to a certain extent. There are many people across the country who collect sportscards, and only a small fraction of them bother attending shows anymore. Even so, no matter where it was, no card show will ever supercede, interfere with, or take sales away from Ebay.

Why would having it out here limit attendance? It's not like the national is in North Dakota. Look at the top sets in the registry- I see a lot of the names are collectors in Southern California, with a few in Colorado and Texas. And several of the biggest collections in existence are in Los Angeles, Orange County, and Santa Barbara. There certainly is an economic base that would rival or surpass anywhere else in the country.
However, at the last two Nationals I've bought more cards on ebay that week than I did at the show. Being on the road didn't stop me, and I'm sure it didn't stop anyone else.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

I don't disagree with you about Anaheim being a great place, and having a robust economy with a large base of collectors. I am looking at it from a travel perspective, especially for us on the East Coast. I would have loved to attend the show, just for the experience of it, but there is no way I can justify a cross country trip for it. Of course, the West Coast collectors would say the exact same thing if the National was held in New York, and they would be correct. Many dealers have commented to me in recent weeks that this years National just didn't make sense to them because of the extensive travel required, keeping in mind they have to haul their inventory with them. In any event, I think the only logical place for a show claiming to be a National is a "central" location, like Cleveland or perhaps Chicago.

Won't affect ebay sales one bit.
