NEN/David Lawrence Connection?

I just noted that a coin on the David Lawrence website is the exact same coin on the NEN website. The NEN site says the coin is on hold. The price on the DLRC site is slightly higher. Does anyone know if there is a connection?

I don't know about a connection, but it is not uncommon.image

And questionable ethics; even though it is common practice, it is deceiving and makes one wonder what else goes on.

Possible it's consigned to both places at the same time? I'd expect sellers to be extra careful in such situations, to make sure they can deliver upon sale. But if they're reputable....

Chris, from NEN, Posts here and will no doubt explain it to you if you wish, as he has done in the past.

I like both dealers. If the coin is on-hold at NEN (which usually means sold), is it possible that DL bought it because he thought he could get a better price? I believe dealer-to-dealer transactions are quite common.

Which nobody has a problem with. However, it definately looks bad when dealers are advertising the same coin that either may not even have, and possibly "warehoused" somewhere else!

In today's Internet market, this is nothing more than either one consignor (or another dealer) giving 'memo' privileges to two dealers, or, as mentioned DL may have asked to review the coin first. He may have already accepted the coin on a "sight-seen" basis, and hence listed it. NEN's "hold" is probably not updated to reflect this final outcome.

However, as a potential consignor to either's retail website, I would not place it with two dealers at the same time; only one dealer would be granted listing exclusivity. However, a consignment is a consignment, and this would not preclude Dealer #1 from selling (or memo) to Dealer #2 on a "physical" basis during a public show.

There is a coin on my bookshelf, that's been there at least a week, that still says HOLD on NEN. I like that they take offers by the way, if you are ooogling a coin and just can't bite on a price, then you send them an email, they accept and all of a sudden you feel like you got a great coin and a great deal... image
